In these days of ‘more is better’ it is a treat to hear how much emotion can come from one man and a guitar. When you think ‘acoustic’, you’d be forgiven of thinking of calming streams and softly spoken words about the olden days, but Nick pours out passion like it was a free drug, and my God, we certainly need this one. He has an orchestra of percussion in his playing that needs nothing else than his confident, rasping young anger, pain and observation to make this a complete show in itself.
Singer-songwriter Nick Stephenson bounces on stage and you can sense immediately the passion and vibrancy in his performance. Nick Stephenson’s use of language is outstanding and he demonstrated this to huge effect in “Forest Song” – the poetic, evocative words creating great visual imagery in his own work. Another of Nick’s original songs, “Poor Little Boy” featured lovely acoustic guitar and a memorable tune making it of good single potential.
